It's an encouraging thing to take cookies out of the oven and discover that they've turned out perfectly.  One's experimental endeavors can so easily go horribly wrong... or just fail to meet one's expectations.  It is a quiet little victory, then, when something (rolling sugar cookie dough in cinnamon & sugar, for instance) goes very, very right -- the butterscotch ripple effect.
